the Path to Liberation through

Amitabha
Jangchog Puja

<Announcement>

The Amitabha Jangchog Puja will now take place in Nepal for a duration of 7 days, instead of the previously scheduled April 6-7 in Singapore this year. All registered name tablets will be transferred to the puja that will be conducted in Nepal.

The Purification Jangchog Puja:

Just as the Buddha has repeatedly taught: "If you do not create karma, you will not reap the consequences; and if you have generated karma, it will never go to waste." As long as it is not ripened, the fruit of karma will not be wasted. If you have created karma, no matter how many lifetimes have passed, as long as the karma has not been purified, one day it will surely ripen, and one shall reap the fruit of one’s action. Therefore, even though the persons have passed away, in order to purify their karma and accumulate good merits for them, it is very important to perform the ritual of "Jangchog Purification."

The practice of Jangchog extends beyond the realm of the departed; it encompasses both the living and the dead. Just as every individual will inevitably face the passage of death, Buddhist centers engage in this practice to offer solace and liberation. Understanding that the illusions of the bardo stem from imprints within the mind, one can purify these imprints through faith and compassion, much like erasing a recording on TV. By practicing Jangchog for all beings, whether living or deceased, we recognize the profound importance of this practice in dispelling illusions and nurturing spiritual growth for both the present and the beyond.

Jang Chog is a purification puja and is usually for the dead as well as the living sentient beings.

Amitabha Jang Chog Puja allows us to accumulate merits through making supplications, offerings and confessions to Buddha Amitabha and is then transferred to the deceased to help them in their purification and liberation. This will help the deceased in the Bardo (a state of existence between death and rebirth) and shows them the path to Enlightenment.

During Amitabha Jang Chog Puja, the name of the deceased is written on a paper tablet and the tablet is burned in the process of the puja to symbolize purification of all the gross and subtle defilements, obscurities and negative karma of the individual by the fire of wisdom and thereby ripen their merit to be reborn in Amitabha’s pure land of Dewachen.
